Editorial instincts built over a decade of writing

Petra started as a staff writer covering technology culture, then spent several years editing long-form pieces for print and digital outlets before founding Venn. The shift from writer to editor changed how she reads - every sentence gets tested for clarity before it reaches readers.

At Venn, the editorial process is deliberate. Pieces go through at least two rounds of structural review before any line editing begins. That sequence matters: fixing structure after polishing prose wastes everyone's time.

Outside the publication, Petra teaches a quarterly workshop on narrative structure for non-fiction writers. The sessions are small by design - twelve participants, focused feedback, no lecture format.

Pieces that took the longest to get right

Good articles writing rarely comes from the first draft. These four pieces each went through significant structural revision - the kind that changes what the article is actually about, not just how it reads.
